About
The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, located in downtown Miami at 1300 Biscayne Boulevard, opened in 2006 as the Carnival Center before being renamed in 2008 following a $30 million donation from philanthropist Adrienne Arsht. Designed by renowned architect César Pelli, the center occupies two 570,000-square-foot sites straddling Biscayne Boulevard, incorporating the preserved historic 1929 Art Deco Sears Tower. The center comprises three main venues: the 2,400-seat Sanford and Dolores Ziff Ballet Opera House, the 2,200-seat John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall, and the intimate 250-seat Carnival Studio Theater, with a combined capacity of approximately 4,800 people. Since its opening, the Arsht Center has hosted over 300 annual events ranging from Broadway musicals to classical concerts, jazz performances, dance, flamenco festivals, and community events, while serving as home to resident companies including the Florida Grand Opera, Miami City Ballet, and New World Symphony. The center has catalyzed over $1 billion in economic development in downtown Miami and serves over 100,000 residents annually through its award-winning arts education programs.
